Sir Geoffrey is pictured with Craig and Olli who did a fantastic job of showing him around the maternity ward, birth unit and triage, and answered his many questions about the facilities and staffing.

Sir Geoffrey said:

“I also met with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, Kevin McNamara and Trust Chair, Deborah Evans, following the tour, to discuss maternity services in Gloucestershire.

“We discussed the current provision in Gloucester and Stroud and the temporarily closed Aveta Birth Centre in Cheltenham. I was reassured that the conversations are still continuing regarding the re-opening of the Birth Centre in Cheltenham, which would benefit many in the North Cotswolds. While staffing levels have increased, and improvements made following recent Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections, this process is still ongoing.

“I do hope that the offering in Gloucestershire continues to improve and expand.”
