Lynden is married to Sarah and lives in Mickleton with their two young sons and two dogs. He attended Chipping Campden School and has lived locally of his life.
Lynden has five sons altogether, three of whom help run the family printing business in Willersey, and four grandchildren. He also runs a nursery specialising in growing young plug plants. In total he employs 50 people locally.
From 2003 until 2024, Lynden served as a councillor on Cotswold District Council and then Gloucestershire County Council. He is a former leader of Cotswold District Council and deputy leader of Gloucestershire County Council.
